Living copper.
OxiQ is a decorative finish built from real copper powder, troweled onto walls and decorative objects and then brought to life with the Stoopen & Meeûs RustiQ & OxiQ activator. As the activator saturates the surface the copper particles begin to oxidise, and the final look is shaped entirely by the maker's trowel technique and the way the activation is worked.
The result is an authentic oxidised-copper effect — warm metallic coppers deepening toward the blue-green verdigris of aged bronze. No two panels are alike: each wall carries the movement and depth of a genuine chemical patina rather than a printed colour.
OxiQ is designed to be combined with its sister finish RustiQ, which is based on iron powder; because both share the same activator they can be applied together or one after the other for layered metal-and-rust effects. It is an interior finish for feature walls and objects, and is not intended for heavy-use surfaces such as worktops, floors or stairs.
How it goes on.
- Composition
- A decorative finish based on copper powder, supplied as a grey powder in 4 kg packs and activated by the transparent Stoopen & Meeûs RustiQ & OxiQ activator. It is mixed with roughly 0.88 litres of water per 4 kg to a homogeneous consistency.
- Equipment
- OxiQ is applied thinly with a Venetian or Japanese trowel; the activator is applied generously with a roller in cross-wise strokes until the OxiQ is uniformly saturated. A long-hair or fine-grain roller can be used to build extra oxide texture. Tools clean up with soap and water.
- Protection
- OxiQ is not scrub-resistant and must be sealed after 8-12 hours' drying with Uniwall 1KPUMat, applied evenly and thinly with a 5 mm felt roller (one coat, or two for more intensively used areas). The sealer also makes the colours more intense.
- Where it's used
- Interior use only, on feature walls and decorative objects first prepared with one coat of Stoopen & Meeûs StucPrimer. It is not suitable for intensively used surfaces such as worktops, floors and stairs.
